9 Eating Tips to Keep a Healthy Body

If you ask people why they don’t have healthy eating habits 9 out of 10 times they will cite lack of time as their main reason. This is understandable since most of us are constantly on the run trying to accomplish our career goals and balance our personal lives and our eating habits suffer as a result.

However, it is essential to consume healthy food since this allows your body to cope better with the stress of the modern-day world. If you’re not sure where to start then this article is for you.

  1. Do not skip breakfast!

People often say that breakfast is the most important meal of the day; and they say so for a good reason. Having a healthy and nourishing breakfast in the morning helps you focus and start your day full of energy. People who eat breakfast tend to focus better on their upcoming tasks. And the best part about breakfast is that it doesn’t require much time to prepare.

Just put a couple of slices of whole-grain bread into the toaster, fry, scramble, boil poach, etc. a couple of eggs, and voila! Add a healthy breakfast smoothie or a glass of orange juice to this meal and you are all set, in under 10 minutes! Your healthy body is one of your biggest assets, so investing 10 minutes into yourself on a daily basis is not too much to ask.

  1. Consume calcium-rich food.

Calcium helps your nervous system and your brain function properly and it also helps your bones and your teeth grow stronger. So not only does it make your smile more beautiful it helps you perform better academically. Yogurt, honey, fresh berries, nuts, and dairy products are all excellent sources of calcium and, as a bonus, they are all utterly delicious.

  1. Drink a lot of water.

Water is the true elixir of life. It is absolutely essential to your health. And the best thing is that it has 0 calories; the more of it you drink the better!

If drinking plain water sounds too boring to you, make it interesting by squeezing some fresh lemon juice into it. You may even buy flavored water at the supermarket, however, make sure that it doesn’t contain added sugar.

If you typically forget to drink water throughout the day, as many people do, there are various apps you can download onto your smartphone that will remind you periodically throughout the day to reach for the glass. Drinking plenty of water doesn’t just help your internal organs function properly it also has some visible benefits such as clearing up your skin.

  1. Create a healthy meal plan and stick to it.

If you have a daily routine then try incorporating a healthy meal plan into it. All you need to do is pick healthy ingredients and a few pieces of Tupperware next time you go grocery shopping. There are thousands of YouTube videos online that teach you how to do the so-called "meal prep". You can prepare your meals several days in advance and store them in airtight containers in your fridge.

Not only is this way of eating much healthier for your body but it also saves you a lot of money and time. Of course, human beings are not machines and we cannot consume the same food day after day without ever getting bored of it. So occasionally breaking the rules when you go out with friends is fine, but for the majority of your days stick to your healthy meal plan.

  1. Buy healthier snacks.

All of us love to munch on something delicious when we are watching films and TV shows.  However, snacks such as chips and sweets are detrimental to your health. Replace them with healthier options such as dried fruits and nuts. Alternatively, try dipping your fresh apple slices into a spoonful of peanut butter; it’s both delicious and healthy.

  1. Use technology to keep track of your healthy habits.

Nowadays the majority of people use their smartphones just for calling chatting or browsing online. But did you also know that there are dozens of applications out there that help you track your nutrition habits? And most of them are free! There are apps that help you count calories, track your macros (for example how much fat, sugar, or carbohydrates you consumed during the day). Others offer a number of healthy recipes or exercises you can do at home. Being organized and consistent is important when you’re trying to stick to a healthy lifestyle and your gadgets will help you achieve that.

  1. Get your friends involved!

Any activity is more fun when you are doing it together with a friend. Go ahead and tell your friends about your desire to maintain a healthy lifestyle. There is a good chance that they want to do it as well, so why not do it together? You can exchange health tips and encourage each other to keep going.

  1. Practice moderation when eating in a restaurant.

As I have already mentioned it is OK to occasionally eat unhealthy food when you are out with your friends however this doesn’t mean that you need to eat as much of it as you can when you get the opportunity. The fact that you get to eat pizza only once a month is not an excuse to eat an entire pizza. Try to limit yourself to a couple of slices instead. However, if you do fall the rails, do not get discouraged by the setback. Just pick yourself up, dust yourself off, and get back on track; remember that healthy eating habits should remain with you until the rest of your life, it is not a temporary thing.

  1. This is not a diet!

Last but not least remember that cultivating healthy eating habits to keep your body healthy for decades to come is not the same as being on a diet. Diet is a temporary thing, it is something you do to get rid of a few extra pounds before the swimsuit season. Healthy eating habits should follow you until the rest of your life. They should become a part of your daily routine, and if you follow the tips given above eventually you will be able to do all of these things automatically and won’t even notice that you are doing it anymore.

To conclude, these are some of the basic habits you need to incorporate into your daily routine to maintain a healthy body. The key to success is preparation, moderation, and consistency. I would wish you good luck but you don’t need it; you can do this!
